Maps says you're three streets away. Find My has you in another town. Weather shows a city you've never been to. Here's why iPhones get location wrong, and how to fix each cause.
1. A location simulation is still running
If you've used a location changer, Xcode, or any developer tool, your phone may still be reporting a simulated location.
- In Mirrage: open the app and tap Stop. Your real location returns immediately.
- Other tools: stop the simulation in that tool, or simply restart your iPhone - a restart always clears a simulated location.
2. Weak GPS signal
GPS needs a clear view of the sky. Indoors, underground or between tall buildings, your iPhone falls back to Wi-Fi and mobile masts, which can be off by hundreds of metres.
- Step outside for a minute and open Maps.
- Turn on Wi-Fi even if you're not connected to a network - iOS uses nearby networks to improve accuracy.
3. Precise Location is off
For each app, iOS can share only an approximate area.
Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → [the app] → Precise Location - turn it on for apps that need your exact spot, like Maps.
4. Location services need a reset
If the location is wrong everywhere:
- Toggle Location Services off and on in Settings → Privacy & Security.
- Toggle Airplane Mode on for 15 seconds, then off.
- Restart your iPhone.
- As a last resort: Settings → General → Transfer or Reset iPhone → Reset → Reset Location & Privacy. This resets all location permissions, so apps will ask again.
5. Time zone or date is wrong
Location and time are linked. Check Settings → General → Date & Time and turn on Set Automatically.
6. Find My shows an old location
Find My shows the last location your phone reported. If the phone is off or offline, it won't update until it reconnects.

FAQ
Why does my iPhone think I'm in another city?
Usually because it's relying on Wi-Fi or mobile data rather than GPS, or because a location simulation is still active. Go outside, check Wi-Fi is on, and restart if needed.
How do I reset my iPhone's location?
Restart the phone first. If that doesn't help, use Settings → General → Transfer or Reset iPhone → Reset → Reset Location & Privacy.
Does restarting stop a fake location?
Yes. A restart clears any simulated location, and your iPhone goes back to real GPS.
